Let's say a couple of years ago someone invented a new kind of orange juice and it's brilliant, tastes really good, almost never too sour, almost never too sweet.
Juice Presses
Now there's this company Narancia that makes juice pressing machines. They were in the general juice machine business making regular household juicing machines and some fancy ones for orange juice nerds.
But since the new method was invented they pivoted to mainly making juicing machines for big businesses that use the new method to make the greatest orange juice of all time at scale.
The people working at Narancia obviously love orange juice as well and Narancia gives them a great allowance of juice because they think people drinking orange juice are more productive at their job. They recommend other companies follow suit. It's the new way to work, drinking a lot of orange juice.
No one has proven it actually makes anyone more productive but the people at Narancia believe it and so should you.
Juice Makers
There's also this other company called OpenJuice. The are a Juice maker. They buy their juice pressing machines from Narancia.
Those presses are expensive. They sell the orange juice really cheap though, below their own cost for making it.
They finance this by selling shares of their company to other people or companies who believe orange juice is the future and don't want to miss the opportunity to earn a bit of the great profits that will manifest when people realize just how much more productive they are when they drink a lot of orange juice.
When, as the CEO of Narancia recommends, companies finally start to spend at least half as much on orange juice as on salaries. They say if the orange juice doesn't make you more productive you're not drinking enough of it.
Juice Service Providers
OpenJuice don't make most of the juice on their own. What they actually do is hire the most prominent orange juice experts in the world to optimize the process of making orange juice.
Harvesting and pressing the oranges is actually done by another company that has specialized in orange juice related services called RJS (Rainforest Juicing Services). They take care of a lot of juice-related services for all kinds of people, companies and even governments.
But lately, they have decided to pivot to orange juice because it just looks like none of the other business really matters compared to how important that new, delicious orange juice is.
Investments
Now most of those great investments that OpenJuice needs all the time to keep operating are done by RJS and Narancia. This makes a lot of sense because OpenJuice has become their single most important customer over the last years and they need them to keep going. There's nothing wrong with companies financing their own customers to keep demand for their product high, right?
But all of this money OpenJuice (and their direct competitor Orangeopic) lose is not a problem because they actually work for a higher cause. They are sure orange juice will take over the world at some point. This is a great risk and it will be horrible when it happens.
Nobody can explain what will happen because it is beyond our comprehension. Both OpenJuice and Orangeopic are sure that they must be the first to achieve what the call the Ultimate Orange Juice (UOJ). It is the greatest risk humanity has ever faced so they must be the company to reach it because....... and this is where I just can't keep up anymore.
Don't get me wrong
I love that great new orange juice. I drink it almost every day. It tastes great and I feel really productive when I drink it. It's probably here to stay.
I'm just really unsure how that whole story will unfold.
